3 day weekend is here!

I'm not sure I have ever been as excited for a 3 day weekend as I have this weekend! Don't get me wrong... I absolutely LOVE my job, my kiddos and the school I work at, but it has been hard to feel rested since school has started!

This weekend has been SO enjoyable and I honestly don't want it to end. My nephew is here from California and it has been so fun to snuggle him! This is the first time I have met him, as he was born the week we went back to school!

Snuggling with my sweet little nephew! <3 Labor day weekend!

This picture above pretty much sums up the first month of school. COFFEE, COFFEE, COFFEE, AND MORE COFFEE!! During the summer I seriously could not drink a cup of coffee in the morning and go to bed at night. Now that I am back to school, I usually consume a pot of coffee and an energy drink! Yikes! I know, such a bad habit!

Two weeks ago my easel was delivered! (Thanks to my wonderful family, friends, and other donors from donors choose!) I was so excited and could not wait to put it together, but I knew I didn't have the patience to do it myself after school so I had to wait for the weekend to come so Eric could come in and help! This mysterious box caused a bit of a buzz in our classroom! The kiddos could not wait to see what was inside this large box!
Last Friday, I told them that Monday when they got to school the item would be put together and waiting for them. They were so excited and wanted to share all of their predictions with me about what they thought was inside. Instead of spending 20+ listening to each person share... (You know how that goes!) I told them when they finished their work early they could grab a sticky note and make a prediction. Some of the predictions were pretty cute, but none of them got an easel. The closest guess I got was: "Something that helps us learn".
Here is our beautiful new easel. I seriously think all last week I did most of my teaching from this spot. I am a huge fan of my Smartboard and love making math interactive, but sometimes I just like having my little second graders right at my finger tips! Which our meeting area allows for!

I am hard at work putting together a nice packet for teaching the common core standards 2.RL.1 and 2.RI.1. This has been our focus this past week and so I have lots of tested ideas that I can't wait to share. For my non second grade friends... this is a CC standard across most grades... so stay tuned!
