The main thing that I loved about the clip chart is on Friday's if the students got all purples, I would give them a small reward. They would try so hard to get to purple and it was almost as if we had a behavior miracle, finally something WORKED! There were two days where they were all honestly so good that they all went to purple, we threw a party. It wasn't like they just were doing what was expected, they went above and beyond and definitely deserved to be rewarded.
Another plus to this system is PARENT COMMUNICATION, Each week I would copy off a template that would allow them to track their colors and each night they had to get it signed. This came in many times at parent meetings! :) This year I am tweaking it just a bit though. Printing off the form weekly was a little excessive, so this year we will do a monthly calendar.
Currently I have a version for anyone working in Mesa Public Schools (AZ) which has important dates from the district calendar. I also have a blank copy where you can write in any important dates for your own district/school. Most likely I will write in dates that are important to our school throughout the year, in case a parent misses it on our newsletter they can find important dates on here too!
There is a color code chart at the bottom. I do not have an in-depth explanation of the system on the actual calendar as it will be in my Welcome Packet at the beginning of the year (I will post that when I finish it!)
Share your successes with behavior management in the comments section! I would love to hear what works/does not work in your classroom!
