Organizing the classroom library

Thanks to pinterest I stumbled across this amazing app: Classroom Organizer where you can scan the bar code of your books in your classroom library an upload them to a website where you can level them by: guided reading level, Lexile, grade equivalent, etc! It's basically AMAZING and has consumed most of my summer break. :)  Click the picture to watch a video on how it works! My favorite part is that the teacher has a page and the students have a page. The students can check out the classroom library book on the computer. This allows you to run reports to see who is checking out what books. (I'm thinking great resource for parent teacher conferences!) When you download your book into excel it gives you an overload of information (If the book is AR, how many points, all leveled information, the list price of book $$, etc.) I highly recommend this as a summer project.

Now that I have a database of all my books all leveled and ready for the new year, I had to do some major updating to my library. Last year I did not label my books with my name. Big mistake, many of the students would bring books from home that I also had and we could not keep track of what books belonged to who. So I had to create labels that I will be putting on ALL my books when I return to my classroom. Click the picture for a copy of the labels. I used Avery 8920. For the font I used Kevin and Amanda's Scrapbook font: Pea Missy with a Marker (Click the picture for an editable version of these labels).
Since I am going to be using the Daily 5/CRAFT I leveled all my books and will be sorting them by guiding reading levels. I created these labels to stick on the back of the books so the students can easily put the books back where they belong. (See links for copies of this). I used the same size labels as mentioned above.
Labels A-B   Labels C-D   Labels E-F  Labels G-H    Labels I-J   Labels K-L  Labels M-N
Labels O-P   Labels Q-R   Labels S-T  Labels U-V    Labels W-X  Labels Y-Z
